The Position

The Cheminformatics and Statistics group in Pharma Research Informatics, located in Basel, is an integral component of interdisciplinary project teams with the task of supporting the drug discovery process by providing innovative tools and solutions in data analysis and prediction making. We are looking for a life-sciences statistician serving as primary contact to our scientists, providing them with optimum statistical support for small molecule projects.

Applies advanced level statistical and programming techniques and leadership to the planning, design, development, implementation, and maintenance of a "Visual Statistical Toolbox" in partnership with Roche statisticians across disciplines, providing tools and know-how to extract hidden patterns and trends from raw data

Supports scientists from a broad spectrum of research fields including high content screening, high-throughput screening, safety profiling, formulation and chemical sciences and other disciplines

Provides consulting and training in statistics and data mining topics for critical evaluation of experimental data and detailed interpretation of results

Ensures that scientists have a sufficient understanding of the methods applied and the results observed

Who you are

MSc (or equivalent) in Statistics and a PhD in life-sciences or a PhD in Statistics (or very similar area) with relevant experience in life-sciences where you have applied statistical methods to the analysis of multidimensional data

Expert in methods/software development in a Linux environment with extensive knowledge in R and are comfortable with Java

Acquainted with intuitive data visualization techniques

Experience with SQL and database design a plus

Excellent presentation and communication skills, enjoy working in interdisciplinary teams

Fluent in English, and are willing to learn and explore new fields

Computational Chemistry Postdoctoral Position - Alderley Park
Connecting to a brighter future

The Alderley Park Computational Chemistry group within AstraZeneca currently has an opening for a post-doctoral researcher, to undertake cheminformatics studies related to the molecular design of novel chemical scaffolds that provide starting points for the development of drug-like ligands.

The Alderley Park Computational Chemistry group is part of a multi-disciplinary team established to support early phase Drug Discovery research. The primary focus is on molecular design and data interpretation at Lead Generation and Lead Optimization stages of pre-clinical drug development. The group works closely alongside other disciplines such as Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Structural Biology, Bioscience, and DMPK.

The position is part of a collaboration between AstraZeneca and a leading international laboratory of chemical biology in Europe, to create small molecule libraries based on molecular architectures (scaffolds) derived from the analysis of bioactive compounds. The main body of the computational work will involve the application of established methods to identify novel scaffolds that are relevant to a portfolio of AstraZeneca biological targets. There will be close collaboration between AstraZeneca and the external partner to translate the molecular design into chemical libraries for biological testing.


As a Postdoctoral Researcher – your main responsibilities will involve:

• Supporting early phase drug discovery research, as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Undertaking cheminformatics studies related to the molecular design of novel chemical scaffolds that provide starting points for the development of drug-like ligands
• Focusing on molecular design and data interpretation at lead generation and lead optimization stages of pre-clinical drug development
• Working closely alongside other disciplines such as Medicinal and Synthetic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Structural Biology, Bioscience, and DMPK

As a Postdoctoral Researcher – your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

• A First degree in chemistry, with a PhD in computational chemistry or similar discipline
• Extensive knowledge of cheminformatics techniques, and some experience in method development in this area
• Experience in installing and tuning software written using the LAMP solution stack (i.e., Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP / Perl / Python)
• Knowledge of modern cheminformatics toolkits, such as JChem, OEChem, PipeLine Pilot.

A leading European Bioinformatics Company are currently looking for a European Sales Manager to be based in Germany and lead their sales front in the European marketplace. This company is a leading organisation in the Bioinformatics sector with business partners all over the globe.

As you will responsible for sales in Europe you will ideally have experience selling Bioinformatic and Microarray products in theses areas, you will be based in Germany due to the large number of clients in this country. You will be home based so location in Germany is not important, however you must be willing to travel across Europe and will need to be able to travel to an airport easily.
