Experience

We are seeking a highly motivated, talented and innovative Scientist/Principal Scientist to join our biology team in developing technologies for nucleic acid-based therapeutics. The ideal candidate will participate in team efforts to discover and develop nucleic acid-based therapeutics for the treatment of metabolic disease and cancer.

Working with external collaborators or in house resources, identify and/or develop appropriate project-specific animal models of human disease (cancer and metabolic disease). The candidate would also manage the execution of in vivo studies evaluating our compounds using translational and pharmacodynamic approaches to prioritize compounds.
Provide in vivo pharmacology expertise to project teams during the discovery and development phases of projects.
Design and implement cell-based and ex vivo studies to support the translation of in vitro data to preclinical models.
Strong commitment to collaboration and working within a project team

Qualifications:
Ph.D. and postdoctoral training or equivalent in the Biological Sciences with an emphasis in metabolic disease or oncology.
Strong knowledge and experimental in vivo biology skills. This includes the development/establishment of in vivo animal disease models as well as interpretation of the results. Strong animal surgery skills (primarily mouse and rat) a must.
Hands-on experience with microscopy, complex cell based assays, ELISAs, Western blots, cell culture, and basic biochemical skills required as well as retroviral vector construction, siRNA and shRNA, Taqman and other advanced molecular skills.
Ability to multi-tasks and participate in several projects simultaneously is a must.
Effective communication skills (written and oral) and ability to articulate scientific results
Strong commitment to collaboration and working within a project team
Experience in advanced in vivo imaging techniques and immunohistochemistry a plus.

We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow with a background in mouse genetics or behavioural neuroscience to study the olfactory mechanisms of instinct in mammals.

The successful applicant will join Darren Logan's group at the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. The position will involve a combination of genetic engineering technologies, behavioural analysis, genome informatics and neural activation studies in mice, to understand how pheromones and their receptors together instruct social interaction. The group is interested in a number of instinctive, olfactory-mediated behaviours including aggression, fear, sexual attraction and feeding.

Ideal Skills:

Scientist, Biology (CovX)
As a Scientist in the Biology Department, this position will contribute to the CovX portfolio by utilizing in vitro molecular models as well as in vivo disease models for drug discovery.

Specific responsibilities to include:
- Execute cell-based functional assays to validate targets and screen potential new biological entities, particularly in the area of metabolic disease.
- Support creation of novel in vitro test systems using genetic approaches such as cloning and reporter gene construction.
- Utilize in vivo disease models to triage compounds and verify mechanism of action ex vivo.
- Engage in projects, generate and evaluate project ideas, work collaboratively with other groups to achieve objectives and timelines.

Qualifications:

- Experience in cell-based assay development and execution, as well as in vivo disease models, and a track record of using these techniques in metabolic disease therapeutic drug discovery, particularly as applied to biotherapeutics. Expertise in immunohistochemistry is highly desired, as is experience with gene expression analysis.
- Design and execute experiments independently, and communicate data and ideas to other team members within Biology and to the company.
- Excellent oral and written communications skills are a must, and proficiency with standard office computer software in required.

Sr. Principle Scientist / Associate Research Fellow, Oligonucleotide Therapeutics
We are seeking a highly motivated, talented and innovative Sr. Principal Scientist / Associate Research Fellow to join our biology team in developing technologies for nucleic acid-based therapeutics. The ideal candidate will participate in team efforts to discover and develop nucleic acid-based therapeutics for the treatment of metabolic disease and cancer.

Working with external collaborators and in house resources, identify and/or develop appropriate project-specific animal models of human disease (cancer and metabolic disease). The candidate would also manage the execution of in vivo studies evaluating our compounds using translational and pharmacodynamic approaches to prioritize compounds. Provide in vivo pharmacology expertise to project teams during the discovery and development phases of projects. Design and implement cell-based and ex vivo studies to support the translation of in vitro data to preclinical models. Strong commitment to collaboration and working within a project team. This position is expected to be 25% bench and 75% office-based. Some travel including international travel is required.

Qualifications:
- Minimally 8-10 years post Ph.D experience in a relevant area (in vivo biology and oncology).
- At least 3 years recent experience in pharma/biotech.
- At least 5 years managing a group of at least 2-3 individuals.
- Strong in vivo skills including orthotopic tumor establishment, IV and subcutaneous injections, blood draws, perfusion and necropsy techniques.
- Strong bioanalytic skills including protein/nucleic acid extraction from tissues, RNA and protein assays, immunohistochemical staining techniques
- Solid Cell culture experience
- Record of managing collaborations
- Strong data analytic skills including statistics
- Must be competent with Excel, PowerPoint and GraphPad or similar
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written)
- Have experience in matrix operations
- Must be a team player
Preferred Qualifications
- PK/PD experience
- Experience with NucleicAcid-Based therapeutics
- Previous development/establishment of in vivo animal disease models
- Experience in advanced in vivo imaging techniques and immunohistochemistry a plus.
